Where to stay in Tenerife for nightlife: Las Américas, Costa Adeje or Los Cristianos

Los Cristianos in the foreground and Playa de las Américas behind, seen from Montaña de Guaza

Every club night on this site sits on one stretch of coast between Los Cristianos and Playa de Troya, so your hotel decides how much of the night goes on taxis. Las Américas to walk everywhere, Costa Adeje for calmer days, Los Cristianos for a town feel and the 711 night bus.

Playa de las Américas
Every club on foot
Puerto Colón
20 min walk to Papagayo
Los Cristianos
8 min walk to WILD · 10 min by car to Papagayo
La Caleta
5.4 km to Papagayo · taxi
  • Look at the week planner before you book the room.

  • Papagayo, El Nido, Monkey Beach Club and Mala Mía are within fifteen minutes of each other on foot.

  • Nothing on this site falls on a Monday, so a Monday arrival costs no nights.

If going out is the point of the trip, where you sleep decides how much of the night you spend in taxis. The clubs on this site are all on one stretch of coast between Los Cristianos and Playa de Troya, and the three resorts along it are very different beds. Here is the comparison we would want before booking.

The short answer

Playa de las Américas if you want to walk to every club. Costa Adeje, at the Puerto Colón end, if you want calmer days and a twenty-minute walk to Papagayo. Los Cristianos if you want a town, WILD on the doorstep and are happy with one taxi per night. Anywhere north of Fañabé or outside those three means a taxi both ways, every night.

Time the walk before you book

On foot to Papagayo: 20 min from Puerto Colón, 40 from Fañabé, 45 from Playa del Duque or Playa de Los Cristianos.

The lit-up strip of bars and hotels in Playa de las Américas at night, seen from the beach

Playa de las Américas

Distances: Papagayo and El Nido on the Troya seafront, with Monkey Beach Club next door on the Costa Adeje side; Mala Mía fifteen minutes inland on Calle México; OA Beach Club on the seafront, ten minutes from Mala Mía and twenty from Papagayo; WILD thirty-five minutes south. Every night on this site is on foot. Atmosphere: the clubs are on the Troya seafront, right on your doorstep. Who it suits: groups, first-timers and anyone who would rather walk everywhere. The Playa de las Américas page has the detail.

Costa Adeje

Distances: Monkey Beach Club sits at the southern edge, next to Papagayo; from Puerto Colón it is twenty minutes on foot to Papagayo, thirty-five to Mala Mía and about forty to OA Beach Club; from Playa de Fañabé forty minutes to Papagayo; from Playa del Duque forty-five minutes on foot or thirteen by car. Atmosphere: calm; this is the hotel end. Who it suits: couples and groups who want a proper hotel and a good beach, and will walk or taxi to the clubs. Stay at the southern end (San Eugenio, Puerto Colón) if you want the walk to stay short.

Los Cristianos and the Montaña de Chayofita seen from the port

Los Cristianos

Distances: WILD eight minutes on foot; OA Beach Club thirty minutes on foot or eight by car; Mala Mía thirty-five minutes; Papagayo forty-five minutes on foot or ten by car. Atmosphere: a town, not a strip, with one venue on this site (WILD, Wednesdays and Sundays). Transport: line 711 runs through the night to the airport and Santa Cruz, and line 467 runs along the coast into the early hours. Who it suits: anyone with a late flight, since line 711 calls at the airport, and groups who will split taxis.

Flying home late?

Los Cristianos is a stop on TITSA night line 711, which runs every day and also calls at Tenerife South airport.

Lovely bases a ride from the clubs

La Caleta, Playa Paraíso, Callao Salvaje, Golf del Sur, Costa del Silencio, Los Gigantes: all lovely bases for a holiday, and all a ride away from the club nights (La Caleta is 5.4 km from Papagayo on foot, the others further). Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz are in the north, about an hour or more away by road (we measured 78 km from Santa Cruz bus station and 71 km from Puerto de la Cruz to Papagayo). If your hotel is in any of these, plan each night out as a taxi ride, or a bus with its last departure checked.

Booking rules that save money

Book the room after you have looked at the week planner, not before: if your nights are all at Papagayo, Playa de Troya is the obvious base; if they are all at Mala Mía, the Arona side is closer. And remember that nothing on this site falls on a Monday, so a Monday arrival loses no nights.
